EDITORIAL
"The first editorial in the new year - a good opportunity for a positive outlook? Certainly, though without excessive optimism." That’s how my editorial began last year. I also wrote about the traditional structural deficits and the great dependence on the rather nebulous and barely understandable "markets". In a retrospective one has to admit that the debt and financial crisis in many parts of the euro zone evolved unexpectedly quickly and deeply. The fallback of Portugal under the regime of the rescue fund could not be avoided. This step originated in many areas drastic and painful austerity measures. The year 2012 may turn out to be even harder and more difficult! A wide group of the population will have to face even more sacrifices. The CCISP too will need to develop its activities in an increasingly difficult environment with changed conditions. But it will manage to meet these expectations with enthusiasm and a good sense for innovative approaches.
Concerning myself, this year's editorial means New Years greetings and a farewell message at the same time. I will end my career in spring, but I intend to remain in Portugal for some more years as a "Swiss Expat". |

Thus I will be able to follow up closely the work of the Chamber and its successes. With unbroken interest and continuing respect!
I wish the directors and the members of the CCISP for this undoubtedly difficult and challenging year a lot of courage, energy and confidence. In May 2012, the Chamber celebrates its 25th Birthday. I send you my congratulations already today!
